Blood donations fall to critical levels

December 28, 2005

Albany- Blood levels have again fallen to critical levels for certain types in south Georgia. The American Red Cross is in desperate need of the universal donor O-negative. Donations are typically down this time of year when the need is the greatest.

"A lot of people are traveling, a lot of things are happening, everybody's busy so a lot of accidents do happen this time of year, so the need does increase," said Candy Shaw, ARC Collection Operations Supervisor.

Many Albany firefighters donated today as part of the Badges for Life program. It's a friendly competition between police and fire fighters to see who can donate the most blood between Christmas and New Year's.
