Albany- Retail sales are up in south Georgia with just one shopping day left until Christmas. Store managers at the Albany Mall say November was a great month and December sales are stronger than last year.

Belk managers say sales here in south Georgia have been stronger than the company's trends elsewhere. They credit the increase to recent sales and extended store hours.

"We found that customers are really responding to the ads and turning out and they seem to be spending a little more this year than they did last year," said Sandy Foskey, Belk Regional Store Manager.

The real sales are expected Monday when managers say there will be deep markdowns on sales merchandise and Christmas items. Belk will open at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning.
