Valdosta - Some South Georgia youngsters are headed to the Vatican City to perform for the Pope.

Members of the youth choir at St. John's Catholic School in Valdosta will sing at the Pope's New Year's Day Mass in Rome, Italy. Only 10 choirs from the United States were invited.

They've been practicing all year for the big event and will get to sing several Latin and German Christmas hymns for Pope Benedict the sixteenth.

"I was very surprised because its not every day that you're invited to sing for the Pope and they only invited 10 groups from the whole U.S.," said Donna Farwell, Choir Director.

"I'm really excited because I've never been out of the U.S. and I love choir," said Madison Nix, Choir member.

The choir is made up of 32 students in grades four through eight.

They leave for Rome on December 26th.
