Valdosta - When you have been coaching for more almost four decades, you record alot of wins. Valdosta State baseball coach Tommy Thomas has indeed won alot of baseball games- 1259 wins to be exact.
It is a record worthy of hall of fame status and that is just where the long time Blazer baseball coach is heading.
Next month in Chicago, Tommy Thomas will be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
A truly deserving honor for the winningest baseball coach in NCAA DIvision II history.
In 38 seasons, Thomas has taken the Blazers to the postseason 25 times including eight trips to the division two world series.
Valdosta State won the NCAA D-II national title in 1979. The first national championship in Valdosta State history.
But what makes a hall of fame coach is that he knows he alone is not responsbile for all of those wins and a very modest Thomas is quick to share the credit.
Tommy Thomas said "Everybody from the adminstration, all the presidents I have served under, athletics directors and you can get the staff workers. And of course, last but not least all the assistant coaches and players that I have had. I feel very blessed to be where I am today, very thankful."
Tommy Thomas says he hopes to coach through the 2007 season but will make that decision after this coming season.
