Subdivision moratorium issued

December 14, 2005

Thomasville, Georgia-- No more subdivisions will be built in Thomas County for at least two months.

Commissioners voted six to two Tuesday night to impose a 60 day moratorium. About 1,000 lots are on the market in Thomas County, and another thousand are on the way.

Commissioners say the moratorium should give them time to asses whether infrastructure can keep up with that growth. The county doesn't have its own sewer or water system, and might have to contract the City of Thomasville to keep pace.

Commissioners also say they want to make sure subdivisions don't ruin Thomas County's agricultural base.
