Albany- Union Mission Outreach and Public Health Center will host an open house Wednesday between 2:00 and 6:00pm.

The pastor of the church approached the Dougherty County Health Department about the idea to have a local community health care center at the church. Once it was approved, the church built a facility and the health department provided staff and medical supplies.

As a team, they offer healthcare to those who can't afford it. Services vary from family planning, birth control, pap-smears, breast exams, diabetes management, and hypertension. They also offer treatment of minor medical problems, such as a cough or fever.

Their ultimate goal is to aid people in the community and anyone else who can't afford to go to a doctor. From students to the elderly, their ultimate goal is to help the needy.

The Health and Youth Adolescent Development Center will also host its open house today beginning at 2:00 pm and ending at 6:00pm. Their focus is to offer services to young women between the ages of 10 and 19.

For those women who need breast exams, pregnancy test, birth control pills and pap smears the services are free if they come alone. If they come with a parent than they are charged on a sliding scale and it is income-based.

The Union Mission Outreach and Public Health Center is located at 213 Old Radium Springs Road and the Health and Youth Adolescent Development Center is located at 1139 Dawson Road, both are in Albany.
