Albany-- The Dougherty County School System will soon have to foot a new $221,000 bill. This will be the last year the Albany Police will fund and run the school crossing guard program.

There are 57 crossing guards that are employed through the city's police department.

"Right now the city police department is funding the cost for the crossing guards, for their pay, their benefits, and also for their uniforms, and it's very expensive for part-time employees. It's strictly a matter of economics. It's why we're doing this," says interim police chief Bobby Hooper.
