Albany--This year the U.S. Postal Service will deliver more than twenty billion cards, letters, and packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. With just two weeks until Christmas, you may be rushing to the post office.

"I've never done this," says Arma King. She's sending a package to her son who lives three hours away, only there's a problem.

"Do you have any idea what to do? Not really, not really," she says. King is just one of the many people dealing with the stress of making sure her package makes it to its destination on time.

"There's a first time for everything," says King.

"The closer you get to Christmas, you need  a more expedited service, express mail is the fastest," says postmaster, Ron Bradley.

Express mail is fastest, but Bradley says it's not a guarantee that your package will arrive on time if you don't follow one very important tip.

"You've got to put your directionals, north or south, east or west, and the whole street and city, state, zip code on there," says Bradley.

Detailed addresses on packages is a must if you want your package to ever leave the post office.

"Right now I'm getting ready to tape this box, and make him take it up," says Arma King.

King is using the right tape to secure her box, but there are tapes you should not use.

"Don't use a cellophane, or cheap type tape, you really need to use a packaging tape," says Bradley.

As for making sure, your packages arrive to its destination safe and sound, Bradley offers another tip.

"Make sure that you've got a box strong enough for the contents, you really want to pack it correctly, and pack it tight," says Bradley.

Styrofoam or newspaper will do the trick, and as King knows, proper packaging is important.

"I want everything whole and not broken up, so it's very important to try and pack it," says King.

Bradley says if you follow those few tips your package should arrive just in time for Christmas.

If you're shipping out of state, the post office also recommends you make sure your package is post-marked by December 19th so that it arrives by December 25.
