Elsie Edwards Glenn, 84, of Albany, died Friday, December 9, 2005 at Hospice of LaGrange, LaGrange, GA following a brief illness.
Her funeral service will be TUESDAY 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Albany. The Revs. Drs. Curtis R. Driver, Jr. and William E. "Butch" Knight, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be at 2 PM at the Pelham City Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the parlor of the First Baptist Church prior to the funeral on Tuesday from 10:30-11:00 AM.
A native of Apex, NC, Mrs. Glenn was raised on at tobacco farm, one of 10 children whose mother was widowed after the birth of her youngest child. At the age of 19, she moved to Albany to take a job in the insurance field. She met John H. Glenn, Jr. and they were married in 1941. They remained in Albany where they raised their family. Mrs. Glenn was a member of the First Baptist Church for 59 years and retired from the Hartford Insurance Co. in 1983 with 25 years of service.
Survivors include two daughters: Betty Glenn Driver and husband Curtis of Mission, KS and Linda Glenn Wilburn and husband Rod of Greenville, GA; a grandson: Curtis R. Driver, U.S. Army, San Antonio, TX; granddaughter: Erica Driver Cornett and husband Justin, Vancouver, WA; two step granddaughters: Kathryn Wilburn Drey, Mobile, AL and Carla Wilburn Bamatraf, Woodstock, GA and their husbands; one great grandson and 5 step-great-granddaughters; 2 sisters: Dorothy Yeargan and Edith Wallace, both of Durham, NC; a brother: Ralph Edwards and his wife Clara, Selma, NC.
