Valdosta - A South Georgia United Way Chapter is one step closer to its campaign goal thanks to a weekend fundraiser.

Scott James and Shari Crim braved the cold over the weekend and spent 36 straight hours on the roof of Lowe's in Valdosta. The annual roof sit raised about $3,250 for the Greater Valdosta United Way.

Now they've collected about 72 percent of their 1.25 million dollar goal.

The organization is still waiting on donations from some of its largest contributors and hopes to reach its goal by the end of the year.
