Valdosta - A South Georgia man will represent our area in the State Special Olympic Games.

Todd Howard of Valdosta is gearing up for Georgia's winter games, which will be held in Atlanta in January. He'll compete in basketball.

Howard also represented Georgia at the International Special Olympics Conference this summer in Panama. He's been involved with Special Olympics for more than 20 years and has medaled in many different sports.

"It teaches mentally challenged people like me to believe in themself and gives you self esteem," said Howard.

Howard is also a member of the Special Olympics Athlete Input Council and the Area Management team.
