Albany -- A sigh of relief tonight for teachers and state workers. Your doctors should be part of the state's new insurance plan.

Phoebe Putney Health Partners announced today it will participate in United Healthcare's health plan. The new deal includes Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Phoebe Worth Medical Center, and Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center.

"The contract we worked out essentially mirrors the same exact deal we've had with the state for the past four-and-a-half years, providing care to state employees through the state health benefit plan," said Phoebe Senior VP Frank Middleton.

The governor issued a news release today saying the deal with Phoebe includes 300 doctors. The hospital can't force doctors to sign on, but a group of Albany physicians negotiated with United.

A member of the Physician Hospital Organization tells us United addressed all the doctors' concerns, and he expects most area doctors to sign up.
