Sanders earns player of the week honors

December 1, 2005

Albany - Doughety head coach Carror Wright said before the state football playoffs started that his defense would have to step up their game.

Defensive end Robert Sanders has done just that.

Sanders has been one of Trojans top tacklers in the playoffs and led the Dougherty defense with 11 stops in Saturday's semifinal win against Shaw.

Robert Sanders peformance against the Raiders earns him our Orthopaedic Associates player of the week honor which was presented to him by Dr. Paul Michas.

Sanders and the rest of the Dougherty defense getting ready for their biggest test since they played  Lee County and their quarterback D'Vontrey Richardson.

Peach County's offense is led by quarterback Antonio Henton who has committed to Ohio State and receiver Chris Slaughter who is ready to sign with Auburn in February.

Robert Sanders believes the Dougherty defense will be ready for Henton from trying to catch their own quarterback Ronnye Nelson in practice.

Robert Sanders said "Ronnye he is very quick. I don't think Peach County's quarterback is as quick as Ronnye so I believe I can get hold to him."

Saturday's game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Hugh Mills Stadium.
