Doctor criticizes proposed hospital changes

November 30, 2005

Albany -- An Albany Doctor says the Phoebe Putney Hospital Authority is trying to block public involvement in hospital operations.

Phoebe's Hospital Authority members proposed changing their by-laws, to hold only one meeting per year and they refused to let Dr. John Bagnato speak at their public meeting Tuesday morning.

Dr. Bagnato was going to ask the Hospital Authority to force a forensic audit of the hospital money records. Dr. John Bagnato said "One of the most important resources in the community being run completely behind closed doors. It's just outrageous."

Dr. Bagnato is the former chief of surgery at Phoebe Putney. The Hospital Authority tabled any changes in its by-laws.
