Murderer on the loose in South Georgia

November 28, 2005

Albany - Police are on the lookout for a masked gunman who murdered 18-year-old Damarcus Wadell around 10:45 Sunday night.

Wadell was walking to his car when someone wearing a ski mask approached him, and fired several shots. A bullet struck the victim in the head, killing him. The suspect then ran on foot towards Westwind apartments located behind K-Mart.

Around 11:10 PM, Dawson police tried to stop a car for a traffic stop. A black man wearing a black shirt got out and ran from the car. The officer then found shell casings in the vehicle, but did not find the driver. APD officers are processing both the crime scene and the vehicle found in Dawson.

Witnesses say the motive of shooting does not does not appear to be robbery, because the suspect did not take anything from the victim. Police are looking into the possibility of gang activity.

The body is at the Moultrie GBI Crime Lab.

If you have any information on the shooting, call the Albany Police Department investigative unit at 431-3288, or 431-2100.
