Valdosta - Things are getting a little quieter in one South Georgia town.

Valdosta City Council members unanimously approved a new noise ordinance at their meeting this week. The old ordinance was written more than 50 years ago and gave no specifics on volume level or distance.

The new one basically states that excessive noise shouldn't be heard 300 feet away from businesses or homes during the day, and 100 feet away after 11 p.m. The same goes for vehicles.

The ordinance allows for exemptions during special activities like sporting events and festivals.
