Albany - Dougherty High running back Xavier Cheevers hopes to win a state championship ring this season.
The ring would go well the three Orhtopaedic Associates player of the week award that he has won over the last two seasons.
Dr. James Mason made the presentation this week to Cheevers who rushed for 135 yards and three touchdows in the Trojans quarterfinal win over Flowery Branch.
The senior is just 144 yards shy of reaching the 2,000 yard mark for the season but says the credit for his success goes to his teammates.
Xavier Cheevers said "The offense is a great. You have got a great quarterback, two great receivers in Michael Nelson and LaValle Parker and the great offensive line that helps us have over 2,000 yards rushing this year."
Dougherty High will play Shaw from Columbus in the AAA semifinals. The game will be played Saturday at noon at the Georgia Dome.
