Lady Cavs get record breaking win in nationals

November 17, 2005

Phoenix, Az. - The unbeaten Darton women's soccer team moves one step closer to their first national title and sets two national records in their first ever game at the National Junior College tournament.

The number one ranked Lady Cavaliers beat Anne Arundel Community College 5-1 Thursday afternoon.

It is the 24th straight win for the number one ranked Darton women which is a national record for the longest winning streak and their 24 wins are the most for any team at the national junior college level.

Bree Dove got Darton on the board early with a goal in the 11th minute of the first half.

Naomi Clark scored the first of her two goals to give the Lady Cavaliers a 2-0 lead at intermission.

Ashley Elam and Clark upped the Darton lead to 4-0 early in the second half.

That allowed head coach Ken Veilands to empty his bench and get everyone on the field.

That should help Darton who will play Laramie, Wyoming Community College in the national semifinals on Friday.

The winner of that match advances to Sunday's championship match.
