Albany--Quitting smoking cold turkey could have gotten you a free turkey sandwich today in Albany.

Today was the twenty-ninth Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the smokeout is held every year to challenge smokers to quit for at least just one day, sometimes that's an eye opener for those who don't think they can stop smoking.

"Once they realize they can get through one day without cigarettes, the next day they won't pick up those cigarettes, so eventually they will just decide they can quit smoking and not pick them up anymore".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 20 percent of Georgians over 18 smoke. That's down from 23 percent two years ago.
