Bainbridge, Georgia-- A man convicted Friday of molesting his niece is awaiting sentencing in Bainbridge.
Robert Sawyer had sex with the girl from December of 2000 to May of 2003. It started when she was nine years old. Sawyer is now 61. Not only did he molest his niece, he also got her pregnant.
District Attorney, Joe Mulholland, says he is asking the judge to give Sawyer a life sentence. "Knowing that her first experience with any kind of intercourse will be with her Uncle is probably something she is going to have to live with for the rest of her life. So, that's probably the most troubling thing about this case," says Mulholland.
Sawyer had been taking care of the girl while she attended school in Bainbridge. Her baby has been adopted in the Bahamas, where she is from.
