Shots fired near Albany High

November 15, 2005

Albany--Albany police are questioning four suspects after gunshots were fired near Albany High. Administrators at the high school locked down the school after the shots were fired just before classes ended Tuesday afternoon.

Students were kept in place for about 30 minutes as police investigated. Police blame gang members. We know they took four young people into custody and confiscated two guns.

One person who lives near the school says problems with gangs in the area are common.

"Yesterday they were shooting in the street. It was all up and down Residence, and the two side streets here. And the police were out here yesterday," says Maggie Emily.

"The actual investigation in regard to the gang activity, these individuals, they may possible be charged either today or at a later time, and will be handled by the Albany Police Department," says Chief Troy Conley, a school law enforcement officer.

No one was hurt when those shots were fired just down the street from Albany High.
