Albany -- An alert has been issued in Northwest Albany. An 11-year-old girl says a man tried to grab her while she walked home from school.

The little girl is a student at Merry Acres Middle School and she tells police as she walked along Pine Knoll Lane Monday, a man approached her, asked if she wanted some money, and then grabbed her shirt.

The girl says she managed to get away, without her shirt, and get back to the school. Albany Police Lt. Tracey Barnes said "We have stepped up patrols in the area. We have also talked to the school system to let them know. And the Sheriff's Department. We're hoping we can catch this person, or if anybody has any information, we'd like to have it."

The girl described the man as being between 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11 tall, and medium build.

Investigators found the girl's shirt in some shrubbery nearby.
