Lee County employees receive salary increases

November 10, 2005

Albany- Lee County employees will receive an early Christmas present, a salary increase. Thursday night, Lee County Commissioners approved a salary survey that would increase salaries for most county employees by an average of $2,000. Commissioner Billy Mathis cast the only no vote.

"The county commission just said we needed to raise taxes to run the county and now we just spent a couple hundred thousand dollars more, when we just gave every employee a raise in July," said Billy Mathis, Lee Co. Commissioner.

"We want to cut down on the turnovers, we want employees to be happy and not have to look for new employees," said Jackie Sizemore, Lee Co. Commission Chairman.

Employees will see the increases in their December checks. The largest increase was given to the county fire chief and emergency management director, totaling $17,162.
