Albany - Wednesday is is the first day of the NCAA fall signing period.
Deerfield-Windsor baseball standout Thomas Carroll signed a scholarship with Mercer University.
Carroll's father Joe played minor league baseball and Thomas' older brother Joey is on a baseball scholarship at Georgia.
Last spring, Thomas Carroll was the region player of the year with a 9-2 record and 1.39 earned run average.
Carroll also batted .451 and led the Knights with six homeruns and 32 runs batted in.
Thomas says the chance to pitch and play in the field is one of the big reasons he chose Mercer.
Carroll said "From the first time they saw me they said that I could do both pitch and play outfield. And I want to do both as long as I can."
Furman and Kennesaw State were among the other schools recruiting Thomas Carroll who is also a starting linebacker on the Deerfield-Windsor football team and is starting forward on the Knights basketball team.
