Dougherty County-- The Marine Corps celebrated it's 230 birthday today. MCLB Albany had a cake cutting ceremony to commemorate the occasion. The second Continental Congress commissioned the Marine Corps November 10, 1775.

Colonel Michael Kampsen, Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics Command, said it's important to remember their heritage while Marines are still fighting today. "They too will take time to remember their history and heritage, even as they are writing another chapter to the legacy of our corps."

Every year to mark the Corps birthday, the oldest and youngest Marine on the base are honored with the first pieces of cake. The oldest Marine is 48-year-old Gunnery Sgt. Warren Dillard. The youngest, 20-year-old Lance Corporal Russell Chastain.
