There is some surprising news from the NCAA Division II selection committee concerning the football playoff seedings.
Valdosta State was number one in the regional rankings before their loss this weekend, Presbyterian second, and Albany State third.
With the loss by the Blazers and a 41-23 win by ASU in the Fountain City Classic, it stood to reason the Rams would slide into one of the top-two spots and earn a first round bye.
However, that is not the case.
North Carolina Central leap-frogged ASU for the second seed, meaning they join Presbyterian with a first round bye.
Albany State moves down to number four, and will host Central Arkansas.
Valdosta State is the three-seed in the region, and welcome in North Alabama, a team they already beat once this season.
If the Rams and Blazers both win out they would meet in the quarterfinals.
Kick-off for next week's games is set for noon.
