Albany -- That AFLAC insurance fraud ring busted in Dougherty County was apparently going on elsewhere, too.
Ten water department employees in Atlanta are also charged with failing false claims against AFLAC. In September, 15 people were arrested in Dougherty County for insurance fraud. Seven of them were also public works or Water Gas and Light employees here in Albany.
But Investigators say they doubt the Atlanta cases are linked to the ones here. Sheriff's Investigator Lt. Craig Dodd said "It's entirely possible that it got out over the A.P. wires, I know what we were doing. I had people calling me from Atlanta asking me about it. It's possible that the idea came up from what we uncovered down here."
The 15 arrested for insurance fraud in Albany are out of jail on bond. One of the seven city workers has been fired, the others are still on the job.
