Albany- Unfortunately, problems with movers are all too common, but there are things you can do to make the process easier whether you're moving across town or across the country.

Only use a licensed mover.

Check the carrier's reputation, get recommendations from friends, coworkers, or the Better Business Bureau.

Get an estimate in writing. You can ask for a binding estimate which prevents the carrier from exceeding the price they quote. Even with a non binding estimate in Georgia, the carrier can't charge you more than 110 percent of the quote at pick up but can bill you for the rest.

Also, read your contract to make sure you understand your rights and obligations.

For more moving tips you can check the following web sites, www.movingscam.com
