Valdosta - Retail numbers for 2005 are in and Lowndes County has set a new record. Retail sales brought in 1.8 billion dollars to the Valdosta-metro region this year.

Last year's total was 1.7 billion. Community leaders say those earnings will help attract new business and jobs to the area, and pay for many projects in the community.

"That's why we're always encouraging people to buy in greater Valdosta because three percent of every retail sale that's made comes right back to this community for your children's schools, for computers, books in the library, and for local government services," said Myrna Ballard, Chamber President.

Dougherty County's retail sales for 2005 were an estimated 1.6 billion.
