Daylight Savings Time nears

October 28, 2005

Thomasville, Georgia--  The minutes are counting down until you have to roll back your clock an hour for the end of daylight savings time.

Sunday also marks the time when you should replace the battery in your smoke detector. In August, Congress passed a law extending daylight savings time by about a month. Beginning in 2007, it will start the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.

Firefighters say that's also a good time to potentially save your life. "It could be the difference in you waking up or not waking up when a fire's in the small stages. It'll alert you to something's going on and you need to get up and get out," says Thomasville Fire Chief, Bryan Croft.

Many people think that smoke will wake them up, but that's not the case at all. It could actually put you into a deeper sleep.
