Albany- Your spine is the core of your body, and taking care of it is essential to your overall health. If you have ever had back pain, you know how uncomfortable it can be. It is important to maintain correct spinal alignment and chiropractic care can help.
Dr. Davis Kinney says: "Chiropractic is a natural healing art, that is really the largest healing art of all the healing arts. It's actually the third largest healing art profession after medicine and dentistry."
Dr. Davis Kinney says many things can contribute to back pain, such as stress. Regular exercise involving stretching, he says can not only help relieve that stress, but also help to ease the discomfort brought on by back pain.
"One of the things that people who suffer with chronic back pain can do is stretch. Most people who deal with chronic back pain will stretch wrong. They will stretch forward and bend over like they would touch their toes. But actually the better thing to do is to get up and stretch backwards--put your hands in the small of your back and extend backwards and just flex your spine the otherway," says Dr. Davis Kinney.
There are several things you can do to keep your spine in line everyday. Don't stay in one position too long. It's important to get up and move around occasionally to keep the blood flowing and avoid stiffness. If you work at an office and sit in front of a computer all day, make sure you have a chair that supports your back and keep both feet firmly on the floor. Also make sure that your arms and wrists are comfortably positioned while typing.
If you have thought about seeking chiropractic care, Dr. Kinney says there are ways to find out if it's for you.
"Ask the chiropractor about his approach to care and about how long his treatment plans typically last and ask about what the expenses are going to be," says Dr. Davis Kinney.
A tip for finding a chiropractor in your area is to go to the Georgia Chiropractic Association's website which is www.gachiro.org.
There you can find one in your area and see if this is an option you want to pursue. Also one more note, Dr. Kinney was just named the Georgia Chiropractor of the Year for 2005-2006.
