School gives military students a treat

October 25, 2005

Valdosta - Life can be hard for children whose parents are deployed, but a South Georgia school is making the time apart a little easier.

Tuesday, students and teachers at Sallas Mahone Elementary in Valdosta gave "We Care" baskets to students whose parents are serving overseas. Inside were phone cards, stationary, stamps, and toys.

The school is also making a video of the students to send to parents so they can see what their child is doing while they're away.

"There are brave men and women in this country who are willing to fight for our right to get up and do what we do each day, so the least we can do is make their children feel as special as they are," said Principal Gary Glover.

The "We Care" basket project is sponsored by Sallas Mahone's P.T.O.
