Albany-- A Grady County building contractor is charged in a South Georgia motel arson.
W. Dexter Harrison is charged with conspiracy to commit arson and mail fraud. Prosecutors say he hired a man to burn the Ramada Inn Limited in Donalsonville in 2002 so he could collect the insurance money. Harrison appeared before a federal judge Friday.
He's accused of hiring Grady County farmer Marty Harrell to burn the Ramada in Donalsonville. Harrison's commercial contracting business had an agreement to operate the motel and prosecutors say he collected more than a quarter of a million dollars in insurance money when it burned.
Marty Harrell is accused of using diesel and gasoline to start the fire. Harrison's detention hearing is set for Monday afternoon.
