Valdosta - It is a little less crowded atop the Gulf South Conference Standings.
The Valdosta State Blazers edge North Alabama 26-23 in a meeting of two of the five teams that were tied for first place in the conference.
The Blazers jumped out to a 10-0 lead with a Michael Green field goal and a Barrett Wilkes touchdown pass to Clay Callaway.
North Alabama, the top offense in the GSC, answered back with two Yuta Fukuda field goals and a one yard touchdown run by Lion quarterback Vinnie Saylor to take a 13-10 lead.
Michael Green's second field goal just before halftime tied the score at 13.
The Blazers regained the lead thanks to a five yard touchdown run by Vincent Brown in the third quarter.
A 42-yard field goal by Green in the fourth quarter put the Blazers up by ten before North Alabama scored a touchdown with under four minutes to play to cut the margin to three.
VSU is 8-1 on the season and 6-1 in the GSC.
The Blazers play at Southern Arkansas on October 29th and close out the regular season at home against West Georgia on November 5th in the Peach Basket Classic.
