Thomasville, Georgia-- Thomas County sheriff's deputies are releasing more information about the arrest of one of their own.

Jailer, Beverly Simmons, was arrested Tuesday night. She's charged with sexual assault on a person in custody and violation of oath of office.

Investigators say about two months ago, they were tipped off that Simmons had been having sexual encounters with an inmate. They called in the GBI on Tuesday after more credible information surfaced. "They confronted the officer and during the interview process she confessed and owned up to the accusations," says Thomas County sheriff's investigator, Captain John Richards.

Investigators say Simmons had at least three encounters with the inmate. She was released from jail on her own recognizance. If convicted, Simmons could spend up to 10 years in prison.
