Courthouse security check

October 12, 2005

Thomasville, Georgia-- Commissioners are scrutinizing courthouse security in Thomas County.

They began looking into it after learning the U.S. Marshall's office is surveying all courthouses in the circuit.

Commissioners say the first step is installing metal detectors and panic buttons. Next is making sure people can only come and go through one door when court is in session. The other two steps include X-ray machines and surveillance cameras.

The upgrades need to be finished by 2008, but might be completed before that if federal or state grants are provided.
