RICO jury selection begins

October 10, 2005

Albany-- Jury selection begins in the trial of an Albany woman charged in a huge money laundering and bank fraud scheme.

Donna Wilson is charged in a 67-count indictment under the RICO, or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. That makes it a crime to use profits from illegal acts to operate legitimate businesses.

Prosecutors say Wilson, her mother Dora Wilson, aunt Bernia Jackson, brother Courtney Dawone Jackson, and James Hadley stole money from Mary Polite and others and invested that money in properties and businesses. Wilson also faces two drug chases.

Jury selection is expected to end Tuesday with opening statements starting Wednesday morning.
