Albany-- A south Georgia teacher is charged with having sex with a student in a classroom. He's being held in the Dougherty County jail.
32-year-old Delvin Sharrod Hawkins was arrested late Friday afternoon. Investigators say the Monroe High Health Occupations teacher had consentual sex with a 15-year-old girl after school on Semptember 12th. He's charged with statutory rape and sexual assault of a person in custody.
"The victim came forward and basically admitted to consentual sex with the teacher at the school in a classroom," says Lt. Craig Dodd of the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.
Hawkins is suspended with pay. His lawyer says his client is innocent and is scheduled to appear at a school board hearing looking into the charges on Monday.
