Katrina affects Flowers Foods

October 03, 2005

Thomasville, Georgia-- A national company based in South Georgia is rethinking its growth strategy in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Flowers Foods is planning to open at least two new bakeries next year, but that may have to be put on hold. Its plant in New Orleans has been closed since Katrina hit.

The company found out on Friday that the damage costs will reach about eight-million dollars. That doesn't include the cost of supplementing the New Orleans' bakery's production.

Flowers operates 35 bakeries around the country.
