Cleveland, MS - The Valdosta State football team has played nothing but close games in recent weeks, and already with one loss on the season, the Blazers were hoping to avoid being placed on double-secret probation at Delta State Saturday night.
VSU would win 24-23, but it wasn't easy.
The Statesman scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take a 23-14 lead, but they missed the extra point.
The special teams mistake would be costly, as the Blazers scored 10 points in the final four minutes to win.
Down by nine, Lewis Kuffour found William Milton for a touchdown, and Michael Green added the extra point to close it to 23-21.
Valdosta State would get the ball back, and Green would knock the winning field goal through the uprights.
Donnie Daniels intercepted a pass on Delta State's final drive to secure the two-point win.
The Blazers return home to host Henderson State next Saturday at 1 o'clock.
