Valdosta - Valdosta State's game at Delta State this Saturday was expected to be one that would go a long way in deciding this year's Gulf South Conference champion.
But with both schools already having one conference loss, the loser of Saturday's showdown will like fall out of not only the conference championship race but also the hunt for the Division II
It was a 51-48 win over the Statesmen last year in Valdosta that helped put the Blazers on the road to their first national title in football.
The Blazers won the game by stopping Delta State twice inside the VSU one yard line in the final seconds.
VSU head coach Chris Hatcher knows the Statesmen will be looking to avenge that loss this Saturday night in Cleveland, Mississippi.
The good news for the Blazers is that running back Vincent Brown is expected to play for the first time since injuring his ankle against Albany State.
The return of Brown will help a VSU rushing attack that is next to last in the Gulf South Conference.
Chris Hatcher said "William Milton has done a fabulous job and is continuing to get better each week. But Vince brings a little bit more to the table. Got a little breakaway speed there and he has big back and has made big plays over the past couple of years. So, we really need to get him back in the fold."
Saturday night's Valdosta State game will be televised by Comcast Sports and can be seen on Mediacom cable channel 99 in Valdosta at eight o'clock.
