Building moratorium expires in Lee County

September 23, 2005

Lee County-- A temporary hold on major residential construction projects in Lee County finally ended, giving contractors the o.k. to build again.

Friday, county commissioners approved dozens of code changes. The county issued a moratorium in May to give them time to assess how the county will handle its rapid growth. The changes will bring more sidewalks and greenspace and tougher standards for stormwater drainage.

"Should help us as we deal with stormwater management and developments. We're pretty flat so it's always a big issue around here when it rains," says Lee County Administrator Langford Holbrook.

Officials hope the changes will improve the quality of new residential developments.
