Governor calls for school closure

September 23, 2005

Atlanta -- Governor Sonny Perdue held a statewide news conference Friday afternoon at 4:00PM, in which he called for the closure of Georgia schools on Monday and Tuesday.

Perdue cited potential problems in fuel supplies from Texas and Louisiana caused by Hurricane Rita. He says he asked the state's superintendents to take "two snow days on Monday and Tuesday."

The governor called on Georgians not to panic-buy gasoline, or to hoard it. He said Georgians should continue to buy gas in their normal way, but not to waste gas. He said any gas shortage caused by the hurricane will be short lived.
