Valdosta - The paramedic who was at the wheel of an ambulance that hit and killed a man is now charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide.
Thirty-nine year old Wyona Diego was transporting a critical patient to South Georgia Medical Center on May 25th when she ran a red light at the intersection of North Valdosta and Val-Del Roads.
The private, Valdosta Regional EMS ambulance slammed into Phillip Phelps' Honda Civic. He was killed.
Investigators say Diego was traveling at least 60 miles per hour through the intersection. She's charged with second degree vehicular homicide and two counts of authorized emergency vehicle. That means she disregarded traffic around her while operating an emergency vehicle.
