Valdosta - South Georgia airmen are back home after rescuing thousands of hurricane victims.

Dozens of airmen from Moody Air Force Base spent the past three weeks in New Orleans pulling people from the flood waters. Pilots and pararescue jumpers with the 347th Rescue Wing helped save more than 4,300 hurricane victims.

"It's the largest operation the Air Force has ever done in civilian search and rescue, so we're very happy with the outcome of that," said Col. Joseph Callahan.

Airmen from Hurlbert Field in Florida and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Airizona helped Moody in their search and rescue mission.
