South Georgia on the move

September 16, 2005

Albany-- Mayor Willie Adams issues a pledge to South Georgians to move a little more and eat a little less.

On Friday, Mayor Adams signed a proclamation that will make September 28th "America on the Move Day of Action" here in Albany. The initiative encourages folks to move more by taking an extra 2000 steps per day and eating less by consuming 100 fewer calories each day. This they hope will make South Georgia a healthy place.

"Obesity is a health problem throughout the nation and it's a precursor to a lot of things including heart disease, diabetes and other ailments including prostate cancer so we certainly want to look at changing some of our lifestyles," says Mayor Willie Adams.

Georgia ranks 6th in the nation when it comes to obesity. To participate in the Day of Action by taking the online pledge, visit www.americaonthemove.org or call 1-800-807-0077.
