Albany- At noon Friday, less than a dozen people had cast early ballots in the Dougherty County Commission district two race.

It was also the last day for candidates to qualify for three Albany City Commission posts. Former policeman Morris Gurr was one of six people to qualify for the ward three seat currently held by Commissioner Arthur Williams.

"To me it's a new day, and definitely a new day for me. It's a new day for ward three, and I think it's time for change and a it's time for a new spirit around the table and I believe I can bring that," says Gurr.

In addition to Gurr and incumbent Arthur Williams, Christopher Pike, Hank Young, George Hawthorne, and Bob Washington all qualified for the ward three post.

Freddy Grimsely is challenging Dorothy Brown Hubbard in ward two, and no one qualified to challenge incumbent ward five Commissioner Bob Langstaff, Jr.
