Relief supplies on standby

September 15, 2005

Thomasville, Georgia-- The Gulf Coast, North Carolina Coast, and a forest fire in Ohio, all possible destinations for dozens of truckers waiting in Thomasville.

Their trailers are filled with tons of ice and water for FEMA. The only problem is, they've been on stand-by since Monday with no word on where or when they'll be sent.

Drivers say they're getting creative with ways to pass the time. "We're just hanging out, telling truck driver stories, you know, where we've been, where we're going. That's about it really, just waiting to get the call," says trucker, Doug Cales.

Thomasville is a staging point for FEMA because of its central location between several interstates. FEMA officials say it's common for them to stage supplies when there's the potential for several emergencies simultaneously.
