Thomasville, Georgia-- Ten lawyers are in the running for a judgeship in the Southern Judicial Circuit.

Two of them are from Thomas County. James Hardy is the Chief Assistant District Attorney for that area. Walter Van-Heiningen is in private practice in Thomasville.

The state judicial nominating commission will narrow down the number of choices to five. Governor Sonny Perdue will then appoint one of the remaining nominees.

The new judge is expected to be known by next month, and will take office on January first. He will be an addition, not a replacement.
