Brunson Toy Drive rolls on

September 9, 2005

Albany-- South Georgia's response to a toy drive for Iraqi children has been overwhelming. Cathy Brunson says there has been an outpouring of support for The Gus Brunson Memorial Toy Drive.

It is honoring one of the last wishes of Specialist Gus Brunson of Worth County, who was killed in Iraq July 24th. Before his 30th birthday, he told his family he did not want anything for himself, but he wanted toys for the Iraqi children he saw everyday.

His mother says South Georgians have been very generous in their support of the toy drive. "I think this will make him very happy. I feel like every time I pick up a box of toys, that he is smiling down on me," said Cathy Brunson.

If you would like to help the toy drive, they are asking for colored pencils and coloring books, sunglasses, gloves, balls. No shooting games or guns, or Barbie dolls.

Toys will be collected for the Gus Brunson Memorial Toy drive through October 10th. There are drop off points in Cordele, Sylvester, Albany, Americus, Ocilla, and Fitzgerald.
